Scott Alexander joined the Otter coaching staff as Laura VanWart’s top assistant in the spring of 2019, bringing with him a wealth of coaching and playing experience.
He came to CSUMB with 11 seasons of collegiate coaching under his belt. He spent four years as the associate head coach at Saint Mary’s College, leading a resurgence that saw the Gaels post their two best seasons in a decade under his watch. Prior to Saint Mary’s, he spent seven seasons on the bench at Cal State Fullerton, helping the Titans win three Big West Conference titles and advance to the NCAA Tournament four times.
In addition to his collegiate coaching, Alexander has 18 years of club coaching experience. He spent the nine season before joining the CSUMB staff as the girls teams coaching director for Diablo FC.
Alexander played collegiately as a goalkeeper at Cal State Fullerton (1997–00). He helped the Titans reach the NCAA Tournament in 1998 and 2000. His best season came as a junior in 1999 when he posted five shutouts and a 1.19 goals against average. As of 2019, those marks still ranked fifth and eighth respectively in the Titan’s single–season record book.
After leaving Fullerton, Alexander played professionally for one season with the El Paso Patriots of the old A League before embarking on his coaching career. He returned to Fullerton to complete his bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2002.
